The Pine Island Trail is a partial alternate route to the gravel road of the East Side Trail. The trail is almost entirely in the woods with limited views of mountains or the river. Two brook crossings may be troublesome at high water. A loop hike of 3 miles can be made using the East Side Trail and the Pine Island Trail.

Where the East Side Trail swings R uphill about .6 miles from the parking lot, the Pine Island Trail continues ahead on an old woods road. It soon crosses a brook and continues in the woods near the East Branch of the Pemigewasset River, then turns R to cross an overflow channel of the East Branch which connects to the brook in high water, creating the island. Finally it climbs slightly to end at the East Side Trail at 1.0 miles.
East Side Trail may be groomed for skiing and hiking.
Map Notes: The USGS map does not show the trail.
