The North Carter Trail runs from the midpoint of the Imp Trail to the Carter-Moriah Trail at the ridgetop, and is often used as access to South and Middle Carter Mountains. It has moderate grades but is heavily eroded, with some sections a couple feet below original ground level.

The trail is located S of Gorham and NE of Pinkham Notch
Lower End: Imp Trail about 3.1 miles from NH Route 16, elevation about 3270 feet
Upper End: Carter-Moriah Trail between North and Middle Carter, elevation about 4470 feet

From the Imp Trail, the North Carter Trail starts uphill at a moderate grade, then sometimes angles L. There has been considerable erosion and there are many rocks and roots in the footway. At 1.2 miles, the trail ends at the Carter-Moriah Trail. Go L for North Carter or R for Middle and South Carter.
