Description

The Nineteen-Mile Brook Trail starts up the N side of the brook as a well-travelled path with a moderate grade. Some areas are rocky, while others may be wet or icy in season. At one point, the trail is on narrow sidehill along the brook - if this looks too scary in icy conditions or high water, it may be possible to bushwhack higher up the slope. About 1.2 miles in, a dam and pumphouse on the brook mark the former Aqueduct Path, now part of the Great Glen Trails fee ski-touring network. At 1.9 miles, the junction with the Carter Dome Trail is reached.

The Nineteen-Mile Brook Trail immediately crosses a brook on a bridge, and another brook .2 miles later. It continues to parallel the brook, reaching the narrow gateway of Carter Notch at 3.5 miles, where the Wildcat Ridge Trail leaves R. The Nineteen-Mile Brook Trail now descends moderately and goes L of a small lake to the junction with the Carter-Moriah Trail at 3.7 miles, this tiny section being marked with white blazes as part of the Appalachian Trail. It then goes R of the next lake with a short very rocky section to end at the AMC Carter Notch Hut at 3.8 miles. The Wildcat River Trail continues down the far side of the notch.
