The Mount Tom Spur leads from the height of land on the A-Z Trail to the summit of Mount Tom. As this is the only trail to this peak, most 4000-footer climbers will hike it both ways. Fortunately it was in tip-top shape in 2006, one of the few White Mountain trails cleared wide enough for easy snowshoeing. The summit of Mount Tom was long considered viewless, but storm damage and ambitious trail workers have opened two viewpoints.

From the A-Z Trail at the col, the trail ascends by alternating gradual and steep sections, with one short slab ascent. There is a nice bench on the R in a deadfall area, after which the trail continues uphill to a flattish area with a trail junction.
Trail well cleared for snowshoeing.
Map Notes: The Willey Range Trail is W of the col, not across from the Mount Tom Spur as shown on the USGS map
