The Marian Trail provides part of a connection from the site of the old Halfway House hotel to the Marlboro Trail, either passing over Monte Rosa (using Great Pasture Trail) or circling around it (using Mossy Brook Trail). Although the trail is almost entirely below tree line, much of the distance involves scrambling on rock slabs similar to those higher on the mountain.
A major ice storm in December 2008 caused severe damage to park trails and facilities and resulted in closure of the park - violators may be ticketed and towed. Park officials plan to clear the White Dot Trail first then others as time allows. See the park website for more information.
Distance: From Mossy Brook/Great Pasture Trail to Marlboro Trail, about .6 miles one-way
Elevation gain: From Mossy Brook/Great Pasture Trail to Marlboro Trail, about 300 feet northbound, about 100 feet southbound

The Marian Trail starts at the junction of the Mossy Brook Trail and Great Pasture Trail, and almost immediately scrambles over a rock slab. Much of the trail is like this, up and down over rock slabs in the woods with a gradual upward trend. Most of the trail is wooded, but there is a viewpoint partway along and a large open ledge at the junction with the Marlboro Trail at .6 miles. The summit of Monadnock is .8 miles to the R via the Marlboro Trail.
