Trail Description - Kinsman Pond Trail

About Trail Descriptions

The Kinsman Pond Trail connects the Cascade Brook Trail about 2.1 miles from the Franconia Notch bike path to the Appalachian Trail and Kinsman Ridge Trail just N of Kinsman Pond. The trail is partly on old woods roads and it has none of the difficult ledge scrambles found on many other trails in the area, however it does have wet areas and it crosses brooks some of which may be difficult in high water.

Description

From the junction with the Cascade Brook Trail, the Kinsman Pond Trail immediately crosses Cascade Brook, then follows an old woods road up the far side for .2 mi. Here it crosses a branch brook near the confluence and then turns L uphill, climbing on sidehill above the main brook but crossing some small brooks. After another mile or so, it levels off and descends slightly before crossing a brook and climbing gradually to Kinsman Pond. The trail leads up the E side of the pond .1 mi. to Kinsman Pond Shelter and tent platforms, where an AMC caretaker will charge a fee ($6 or so per person) to stay overnight during the summer hiking season. The trail then continues .1 mi. to Kinsman Junction, where you can:
