Trail Description - Kedron Flume Trail

About Trail Descriptions

The Kedron Flume Trail provides an alternate access to the Ethan Pond Trail (Appalachian Trail) starting from the Willey House state park site on US Route 302 S of Crawford Notch. It is narrower and twistier than the Ethan Pond Trail with a brook crossing that may be difficult in high water.

Trailhead: Willey House area of state park on US Route 302 about 2.6 mi S of Crawford Notch railroad depot, elevation about 1300 feet

From I-93 exit 35 near Franconia Notch, follow US Route 3 about 11 miles N to the junction of US Route 302 in Twin Mountain, turn R on US Route 302 and go E about 11.6 miles to Willey House, watch for signs for hiker parking on R.

Far End: Ethan Pond Trail, elevation about 2400 feet

Description

The Kedron Flume Trail leaves the parking lot on a driveway and ascends two long switchbacks to cross the railroad tracks then climbs uphill and uses shorter switchbacks. At .7 mi the brook is crossed above Kedron Flume but there are no good viewing spots of the falls below. After more climbing, the Kedron Flume Trail ends at the Ethan Pond Trail at about 1.2 mi.
