The Frost Trail leads from the Garfield Ridge Trail/Twinway (Appalachian Trail) near Galehead Hut to the summit of Galehead Mountain, and also connects to the Twin Brook Trail. The first part is slightly downhill, with steep climbing later to make up for it. As the only trail up Galehead, it is used frequently by peakbaggers, and also by hut guests who have an hour to kill before dinner.

The Frost Trail starts at the junction of the Twinway and the Garfield Ridge Trail (both carrying the Appalachian Trail here) near Galehead Hut. It almost immediately passes in front of the newly-rebuilt hut and enters the woods beyond. (To comply with Federal guidelines, the hut is handicapped-accessible, ask a crew member to describe these features.) The trail descends slightly through a blowdown patch to a junction with the Twin Brook Trail at .2 miles. The Frost Trail turns R and begins a steep ascent, moderating and passing a view L of the hut and surrounding peaks. A cairn in the woods beyond may mark the flattish summit.
The hut is open in warmer months only with no shelter available in the off season.
Map Notes: The USGS 7.5' map does not identify Galehead Mountain (the 4024 peak near the hut) or show the Frost Trail.
