The Eagle Cliff Trail leaves the highway at a carved post and trail sign, and descends briefly before beginning its ascent. Watch out for poison ivy near the beginning. After a steep ascent in the woods, the trail reaches a ledge with views over Squam Lake at .6 miles. It then ascends another ledge and descends slightly to a col at 1.0 miles where the Teedie Trail leaves R for Bean Road at the Sandwich/Moultonborough town line. The Eagle Cliff Trail now climbs over another small knoll, makes a switchback R then L up from the col to the shoulder, then passes over another small knoll. A more gradual ascent along the ridge leads to the Red Hill Trail at 2.5 miles.
The warden's cabin and the fire tower are a short distance to the L. There are some small blueberry patches at the summit, and grassy areas for a picnic. You can climb to a platform on the fire tower for views, and if the observer isn't busy, they may invite you into the cab and explain how to detect fires. This tower is operated by the town of Moultonborough rather than the state.
