Trail Description - Copple Crown Mountain

About Trail Descriptions

Copple Crown Mountain is a small but prominent peak SE of Lake Winnipesaukee in Brookfield. The summit and much of the surrounding land on the Brookfield side is owned by the Lakes Region Conservation Trust, which has built a trail to the summit with the cooperation of adjoining property owners. There are several viewpoints near the top of the mountain.

A fire lookout tower has been proposed for this peak but requires state funding in a tough budget season.

Description

From the parking lot, take the ungated road R (north, signed for Copple Crown) and at .3 miles another road enters R (this was the R fork at end of pavement). Go L on road which angles slightly uphill, making a long arc from E to N of the summit. At 1.3 miles there is an LRCT kiosk on the L, follow the footpath behind it uphill.

The path soon turns R on an overgrown woods road which angles uphill to the R. At about 1.9 miles the woods road peters out, and the path begins a series of switchbacks up the NW ridge. At the W end of a switchback at about 2.3 miles, an unmarked trail enters R from the top of the abandoned ski lift in Copple Crown Village - watch for blue blazes and do not take the wrong trail on the way down. The main trail ascends to a junction at 2.5 miles.

The main trail continues to the R and soon reaches an unsigned junction. The L fork leads over a bump to a clifftop view over the East Peak. The R fork ascends to the summit rock and descends slightly to a ledge with views of Lake Winnipesaukee, Lake Wentworth, and the White Mountains.

Off Season

Dirt section not plowed. Section up to kiosk used by snowmobiles.

Map Notes: The upper part of the hiking trail beyond the kiosk is not shown on the USGS map.
