About Trail Descriptions

The Cathedral Forest Trail is a link in the easiest and perhaps most popular route up Mount Cardigan from the AMC Cardigan Lodge to the E. Description

From the junction with the Holt Trail, the Cathedral Forest Trail begins to climb moderately uphill to the L. The impressive forest after which this trail was named has largely succumbed to age and disease. At the junction with the Vistamont Trail at .1 miles, the Cathedral Forest Trail turns R and continues uphill to the Clark Trail at .6 miles.

To Mount Cardigan summit: Go R on the Clark Trail, passing turn to AMC Hi-Cabin. From the fire warden's cabin to the summit is bare rock ledge, but it is not as steep as the Holt Trail.

Off Season

Parking lot plowed in winter.
Road to AMC lodge plowed by town, but low priority after storms.

Map Notes: The USGS map shows mostly ski trails and not hiking trails on the E side of Mount Cardigan. For trail locations, use the AMC map.
