The Cart Path and Mossy Brook Trail together circle around the W side of Monte Rosa starting from the Old Toll Road below the site of the old Halfway House hotel, either providing a loop over Monte Rosa or a connector to the Marlboro Trail. While the Cart Path is relatively wide with a gentle gradient, the Mossy Brook Trail is narrow with a moderate grade and sometimes hard to find.
Distance: From Old Toll Road to Marian Trail, about .8 miles one-way

Cart Path
The Cart Path leaves the Old Toll Road on the L about .1 miles before the gravel ends; this is about opposite the private residence on the R and between a culvert and a utility pole. The trail sign is not at roadside but back in the woods by the trail. From the junction, the Cart Path descends gradually on a wide path, soon crossing the Old Halfway House Trail and the Royce Trail. It then levels off and crosses 2 small brooks before suddenly turning uphill and ending at the Mossy Brook Trail after about half a mile.
The trail that once went straight ahead was discontinued many years ago, so there is no longer a trail junction here - signs show where the Cart Track ends and the Mossy Brook Trail begins.
Mossy Brook Trail
The Mossy Brook Trail angles uphill toward the brook ahead, and then runs up alongside. The footway is much rougher and narrower than the Cart Track and there are no obvious blazes. The trail finally crosses Mossy Brook and ends at the junction of the Marian Trail and Great Pasture Trail. Go L for the Marlboro Trail and R for Monte Rosa.
