While there are numerous Bog Ponds and Bog Brooks in New Hampshire, this is the only Bog Mountain. It is located among bogs in Wilmot, with the Sunapee-Ragged-Kearsarge Greenway Trail passing near the summit, one of the few peaks crossed by this trail except the named ones. The route from the W is shorter and perhaps more interesting than the route from the SE.
Distance: Stearns Road to summit, about 1.0 miles one-way
Pinnacle Road to summit, about 1.7 miles one-way
Elevation gain: Stearns Road to summit, about 600 feet, nominal on return
Pinnacle Road to summit, about 1000 feet, 100 feet on return

From Stearns Road, the trail ascends moderately with a few minor dips, then follows near the ridge to a large ledge area near the summit which it ascends. There are views from here of Sunapee to the SW and Kearsarge to the SE and a glimpse of Cardigan to the N; a side path heads L past the true summit to a viewpoint E to Ragged.
The trail descends to the E over a series of steep pitches with easier spots between. The next section of trail has been relocated after landowner changes, watch blazes carefully in case it changes again. Reaching a flatter area, the trail swings more to the S and ascends gently along an old road between stone walls. Finally it leaves the old road and continues in woods behind buildings before reaching Pinnacle Road near its end at 2.7 miles (sign).
Walk .3 miles L down this road to North Wilmot Road. If you are continuing on the Sunapee-Ragged-Kearsarge Greenway Trail, turn L on the paved road and almost immediately leave it R. For the public library and Wilmot village, turn R on the paved road.
Parking space may be plowed in winter on Stearns Road and at the library.
Map Notes: The USGS map does not show this trail.
