Most of the route is on old woods roads with little change in elevation, although there are brook crossings which can be troublesome in high water.

From the Lincoln Woods Trail/Wilderness Trail, the Black Pond Trail follows an old railroad siding which it soon leaves L. It then follows an old logging road to Black Pond, with one short relocation due to beaver flooding and several small brook crossings. It then follows a short distance up the W side of the pond to the shore where there is a good view ahead of Owls Head. Several trees have been felled across the old woods road here to discourage further travel.
Lincoln Woods Trail/Wilderness Trail groomed for skiing and hiking.
Map Notes: The USGS map shows this trail fairly accurately, but there are errors in several nearby trails.
