Bartlett Haystack is a minor summit just W of Bear Notch that is one of the 200 highest peaks in New Hampshire. There is a tiny ledge with benchmark and view just beyond the summit.
Distance: From road to summit, about one mile one-way
Elevation gain: About 1200 feet

Trailhead: Start near the highest point of Bear Notch Road, or a short distance NW on the branch road into the Bartlett Experimental Forest, elevation about 1770 feet
Far End: Summit of Bartlett Haystack, elevation about 2980 feet

This should be called a non-trail description as there is no trail. Just walk uphill to the summit. The grade starts out moderate but becomes quite steep in the upper portion. It may be harder to find your way back as from the summit every way is downhill, so check your compass before starting down.
There are some scrubby areas on the mountain but the worst can be bypassed. Some hikers have turned around when they met a bear.
Bear Notch Road is not plowed, and may be gated during snow and mud seasons.
