Peak Description - Mount Kent

Mount Kent is a minor summit in the NE corner of the town of Pittsburg, with access over gravel logging roads. There is presently no trail, although it is possible that a branch of the Cohos Trail will be built here. Some people climb it as a 3000-footer, and it has also attracted notoriety because it erroneously appeared in a state list and on some state maps with a summit elevation of 4000 feet.

Presumably the error occurred because the highest labelled contour on the USGS 15' map was "3000", with four light brown and one dark brown contours above. So the top contour is "4000", right?

Routes

Start either at the col with Salmon Mountain [N 45.2390, -71.1106 W (WGS84)] on the East Inlet Road about 8.5 miles from US Route 3, elevation about 2510 feet, or on the branch road R .2 miles beyond that leads around the N side. There is no trail, just walk uphill about a mile to the summit, elevation about 3137 feet. There is a bump on the ridge to go over if you start from the main road at the col. It may be harder to find your way back as from the summit as every way is downhill, so check your compass before starting down.

Off Season

The access road will not be plowed unless logging is in progress, and may be gated during snow and mud seasons. Expect to dig your own parking space through a plow drift.
